Case Study

As coordinator of the Ethics Across the Curriculum program, I was responsible for training for faculty and staff who wanted to include an ethics module in a course or co-curricular program. This presentation focused on how to author and teach case studies. Recognizing that program participants would feel most comfortable applying ethics to discipline specific scenarios, I developed this presentation to focus on different approaches to case studies. My participation in a training session on case studies at the Poyner Center, degree in ethics, and experience teaching courses on critical thinking and ethics has prepared me to author case studies and use them in an educational setting to teach policies and procedures, and to show how to resolve situations where the policy is ambiguous.

The audience for this presentation was 40+ faculty and staff members from a variety of disciplines who used case studies in their courses. The presentation was well received with participants highlighting the value of being able to approach case studies from a variety of perspectives based on their educational goals.
